Remote Litigation: The Goal for the UAE

In a continuing effort to reach the countries goal to become digital the UAE aims to have more than 80 per cent of litigation to take place remotely by the end of the year.

In a continuing effort to reach the countries goal to become digital the UAE aims to have more than 80 per cent of litigation to take place remotely by the end of the year.

Since the beginning of the pandemic it has been common practice to work remotely, individuals and corporates have spun in to action to produce effective working methods to work anywhere they need to. Government and private companies continue to adopt remote working practices, why not the courts?

The UAE aim to provide the best judicial system the best in the world.

“The UAE has succeeded in adopting remote litigation systems during the Covid-19 pandemic,” Sheikh Mohammed said on social media.

“Today we directed the Ministry of Justice to have more than 80 per cent of remote litigation sessions permanently before the end of 2021. Our goal is to be the fastest, best and fairest in judicial services.”

More details are expected in the next few weeks.

Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, ordered the establishment of Abu Dhabi Establishment Court, which will hear all financial disputed with claims equating to less than AED 500,000, on matters such as labor disputes, and civil and commercial cases. 

This new court would free up time and resources for other courts to deal with much more serious matters, it will also allow these such claims to complete within just 15 days.
