The region’s first driverless tax will be piloted during this week-long event.

The Gitex Technology Week started on October 14, 2018 in Dubai. The region’s first driverless tax will be piloted during this week-long event.

The Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) autonomous taxis would help ferry Dubai Metro and tram passengers to their final destinations and will be running on dedicated routes only to ensure top safety and security standards.

These autonomous taxis are equipped with cameras and sensors that fully view traffic and road conditions. The vehicle is designed to even avoid collisions. This initiative is in line with the Dubai smart self-driving strategy that aims to transform 25% of its total journey into self-driving by 2030.

The Gitex Technology Week shall also showcase other technologies including robot cleaners for Dubai Metro stations, an artificial intelligence (AI) powered chatbot system, etc. This technology week is a platform for government and private entities to showcase their innovations, and is focused on start-ups, AI and new-age technologies that benefit the future of transportation in the emirate.
